The Motivationz Maori & Pasifika Youth Development Mentoring Programme encompasses the six principles of the Youth Development Strategy Aotearoa. It acknowledges and implements two recognised and holistic indigenous health models: Te Whare Tapa Wha and The Circle of Courage.
We use a strengths-based approach to youth development, with mentors building supportive and positive relationships with rangatahi to create Individualised Action Plans in order to achieve their goals. Our vision at Motivationz is to “enhance lives through building confidence and self-belief. Motivationz recognises the paramount importance of acknowledging cultural identity and values when working with Maori and Pasifika rangatahi and their whanau/ aiga. We use a holistic approach through the use of the Te Whare Tapa Wha Maori health model which identifies four elements of health imperative for overall healthy development of the young person. These are: Taha Tinana—Physical health; Taha Wairua—Spiritual Health; Taha Whanau—Family Health; and Taha Hinengaro—Emotional Health. Through the development and implementation of an Individualised Action Plan, the mentor will endeavour to support and motivate the young person to: improve their overall wellbeing; increase their attendance and engagement within their learning environment; and achieve credits towards completing NCEA Level 2. |
